Status update:

New Year's resolution of progressive home improvement on track, thanks to Office Depot's free shipping of tables and Mark Bittman's How To Cook Everything and Minimalist cookbooks. On the other hand, the idea of not chewing more than I can bite (not literally, we're not getting into dog ate my homework territory) when it comes to leisure reading is still not imprinted properly into my brain. Sigh.

I'm in my dystopian track, having finally get around to reading Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. A review of it (Google for Republic of Gilead led me to the world of Sinclair Lewis and his portrayal of early 20th century American culture. Currently reading his Elmer Gantry, a surprisingly relevant tale of wayward evangelism, with Main Street in the queue.

Incidentally, if you are familiar with Ralston Crawford's work, do let me know. The cover image of Elmer Gantry uses a painting of his that is unidentified, and I've not managed to find it online. There should be an image search engine based on likeness, though it probably would not help in this case.
